Optometrists (Doctors of Optometry, or O.D.s) are primary care eye doctors who are licensed to perform eye exams, prescribe corrective eyewear and provide medical eye care. Optometrists are not eye surgeons, but these doctors can examine your eyes and give you an opinion about your suitability for LASIK laser vision correction in a no-pressure, no obligation environment. If you choose not to have vision correction surgery after your LASIK consultation, your optometrist can also advise you about the latest contact lenses and thinner, lighter eyeglass lenses.
